Our school joins an international research mission!
Together with Lapijoen koulu in Eurajoki, Finland, we have adopted the research float ARGO (Float serial number: AI2632-24EU001, WMO number: C221011-0205), which has just begun its underwater journey in the Baltic Sea. 🌍💙
🔬 Mission AREX2025 was carried out on board the research vessel S/V OCEANIA under the supervision of Barbara Oleszczuk from the Institute of Oceanology IO PAN .The float was deployed on June 25, 2025, at 06:06 UTC at the position 55°13.463’ N and 16°09.455’ E. At the time of deployment, the sea state was moderate and wind speed was 5 Beaufort.
⚙️ ARGO successfully passed all internal system checks (OK ✅), and CTD profiles were taken before and after the deployment.
From now on, ARGO will be drifting through the Baltic Sea (down to 85 meters depth), measuring temperature, salinity, and other oceanographic parameters. Thanks to our collaboration with the Institute of Oceanology PAN in Sopot, we will soon take part in dedicated student workshops, learning how to read and analyze the collected data together with our Finnish partner school. 📊🌐
🙏 We would like to sincerely thank the Institute of Oceanology IO PAN and Ms. Anna Bulczak for their wonderful cooperation and support in this project.
This is part of the prestigious UNESCO Baltic Sea Project, where young researchers from the region cooperate to understand and protect the Baltic Sea. 🌱💡
👉 Stay tuned for the first scientific data from our underwater mission!
